June 20, 2013Day 5, Sahishnu
June 20, 2013The fifth day of our yearly saga on multiple day running was highlighted by the re-emergence of Finnish star Ashprihanal Aalto, who led all comers with 71.89 miles. He climbed from ninth to fourth in the standings with one day of good running, punctuated by clear skies and a breeze every now and then. Atmavir Spacil climbed into first overall with a 67.5 miles. He is currently averaging 71.34 miles per day.Surasa Mairer continues to lead the women with a 64.4 mile per day average.Ten of the 12 marauders went past sixty miles today. All of the runners have an average of at least 60+ miles per day. However, this is a small sample size. One of the tests of this epic event is that it is so long. One cannot look ahead past the present daily task. But in all tests, the cream always rises to the top. We shall see who is the wisest, the fittest, and the strongest. Stay tuned…..
Day 5, Pranjal
June 20, 2013Hi everyone, Pranjal again. This is the end of day 5. I had a pretty tough day. Since morning my legs were pretty heavy and I need to push myself very hard. I keep pretty good pace all day but it was really really hard. I ran until 22:30 and then was walking till the midnight. I did something like 112 laps, which is not bad. This is part of the race. Body is started to adjust to this tough things. All the others looked really strong, nobody have main injuries. But it is still early days of the race. Atmavir had some crisis in the morning. It took him about 2 hours of slow running and then he was running fast again. Vasu as usual was running very fast. Yuri is interesting, because he is not running that fast, but all time on the track and could do a lot of miles. Surasa looks very strong, amazing pace, very fast and still cheerful. Sarvagata is still warming up. Baladev still keeping a very good pace. Shopan is doing well. Ashprihanal getting stronger and stronger. Nidhruvi is very determined and strong, trying to do 60 miles per day. Ananda-Lahari started a little bit slower in comparison to other years. Sarah having an interesting style, sometimes she is having more brakes, but when she run – she run very fast. She is fastest on the track. This evening she was sprinting. She is in good shape. See you tomorrow.
You Must Be Very Strong. By Utpal

3 years ago in 2010, when Surasa arrived at JFK airport in New York, she was asked by the Immigration officer what was the purpose of her visit to America. She told the man that she had come to run the Self Transcendence 3100 mile race and would spend every day, that summer while visiting, running . He was surprised of course and said, “you must be very strong.” Surasa a veteran of many many multi day races remembers that she was a bit shocked by his words. For she did not think of herself as strong or particularly special. Perhaps there was part of her that simply thought that it wasn’t such a miraculous thing for one to run 3100 miles. For she simply felt so strongly deep within herself that this was the thing she was supposed to do and that was that. Read more
